Rome is the capital city of Italy. It is also the capital of the Lazio region, the centre of the Metropolitan City of Rome, and a special comune named Comune di Roma Capitale.
The city is located in the central-western portion of the Italian Peninsula, within Lazio (Latium), along the shores of the Tiber.


The official currency in Italy is the Euro. The banknotes of 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, and 500 Euros are in use, as well as the coins of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 cents and 1 and 2 Euros.


The official language spoken in Rome is Italian, but many locals speak English, especially those who work in restaurants, hotels and other places associated with tourism.
